1976 Volkswagen Rabbit 4 Door , Auto , 51k ( original miles )
FOR SALE: BEST OFFER. I WILL PROBABLY END UP PUTTING IT UP ON EBAY UNLESS REASONABLE OFFER / TRADE IS CONSIDERED
51,000 miles.
They ended up finding all the records... including manuals, original window sticker, some 8x10 pics ( dealer pics ) from 1976 of a yellow rabbit with the specs on the back of the pictures... all sorts of receipts for everything...
Started right up - pulled it out of its dark cave / garage into the light, stopped to get some gas and noticed , the front end been painted on... i going to dig through receipts, im sure the receipt for it is in there. Fenders / hood have been repainted, they have more a " orange peel / glaze " to them that the rest of the car.. all the lines look good..
Smoothy hood has some bondo which is cracked on the front passener side fender.
Love the external hood release.
Interior is nice, driver side floor mat or carpet is pretty much non-exsistant..
Dash is near perfect. Car has no radio, no antenna, no a/c, no passenger side mirror.. Has plastic plugs covering antenna hole and driver side mirror hole.
Engine bay is DIRTY.. dont think its ever been cleaned / power-washed. I was able to clean up to see stick on hood. Has this weird aux air pump that the belt isnt hooked up but it turns.. the block / head has this metal line that goes in for the air pump..
Carb looks like a new / rebuilt unit. The coil , plug wires , cap look newer.
Very small brake booster / master cylinder..
The kick down cable on the auto -trans was bad.. luckily my local race VW shop owner doesnt throw anything away, like myself.. and he had a new cable sitting on the shelf... it has a little bit more throttle response now...
Strut towers have some peelin' of the paint around edges where metal lip is. i didnt POKE around but even behind them facing rain tray.. there is some discoloration to the paint..
The rear hatch was hard to open, i dont think she ever used it..
The seal was stuck to the body..
My favorite part has to be the interior.. Nice perfect white headliner, nice perfect plain black door panels... the driver seat has a tear in the upper outte bolster ( if you can even call it a bolster )
The door stickers inside driver door are still plain as day to read..
Not sure what this sticker is for..
There are a few spots of rust.. along rear seam by exhaust tip.
driver side rocker pretty good.. just this little spot.
Rear passenger side tail-light is cracked and paint is chipped off where it must of been hit.. Daughters seem to remember a shopping cart incident..
Pasenger side rocker has a bigger spot of rust behind trim peice.
Then the worse spot behind passenger side rear fender flare.
I picked it up at 11am this morning...
Drove it 64 miles home on the interstate / highway.... runs great.
At stop light, it will sputter and giggle a bit... idle might need to raised a little bit, when on a hill from stop light you gotta get into the gas pedal a little harder but it goes... i got it up 65 ( speed limit ) those little tires dont liked GROVED roads i will tell ya that..
Got it home, sprayed it down and snaped pics. I might clean up the engine bay this weekend. I went to DMV and plated it with my historical tags that i had on my porsche 911 which i sold a few weeks ago.
My 2 year and I went for a ride when i got home.. he loves it cuz he can actually sit high enough to see out the back window... just worried he is going to throw something out the window!!!

january 17 , 1977 Letter from VWOA
Talking about some owners not following proper starting procedure as outlines in the owner manual and causing damage to their car.
1. DO NOT START THE CAR AND LEAVE UNATTENDED!
2. Once started , reduce the fast idling to a slower rate within a few seconds by lightly tapping the gas pedal.
If you do not follow these instructions your car might suffer DAMAGE from over-heating.
One final reminder: Never park over combustible material including grass or leaves which may come into contact with the hot exhaust system.

Recall 1975 - 1979 Rabbit / Scirocco
Inspection of Interior Brake lines.
Brake lines installed underneath the carpeting in the passenger compartment may corrode due to the entry of water / road salt. Failure of one brake circuit increase cars stopping distance and could result in accident.
No actual date on the letter from VWOA, but there is receipt for inspection on 6-20-84
